Propagating plants under stressing climatic conditions is a well known challenge to many a grower. Having to balance the addition of water to a young plant under stressing conditions against the risk of water logging the substrate could be a choice between two evils. The result may be less than optimal with respect to waste levels, plant quality, and operational cost. Now, Jiffy offers the convenience of the proven Jiffy-7 system in combination with an extremely aerated and easily drained coir substrate. Testing shows that a number of crops benefit from the optimal rooting conditions in the coir pith substrate prepared by Jiffy and adapted to the modern grower"s quality expectations.

The Jiffy-7C is developed and manufactured under Jiffy"s stringent quality requirements. The substrate used in Jiffy-7C is produced from carefully selected raw materials and designed to provide a stable and controlled environment for propagation of plants from seeds, cuttings or tissue culture. The principal constituent of the substrate mix is coir pith from selected sources, undergoing chemical and structural optimisation and addition of a fertiliser tailor-made for Jiffy-7C pellets and young plant propagation. The coir pith is at the time of reception at the Jiffy factory tested with respect to normal germination of sensitive seeds, presence of excessive foreign seeds, pH, and conductivity. The substrate mix is during processing exposed to moderately elevated temperatures, which help eliminating harmful presence of foreign seeds and detrimental organisms. The Jiffy-7C is enclosed in a minimal netting film of non-woven material, serving as an envelope for the substrate. The net is made to allow optimal root development of the plant by allowing roots to penetrate and expand freely, while at the same time providing adequate strength for the root ball during handling, shipment and transplantation.
