Kong produces huge leaves on a very fast growing plant. Ideal for providing contrast in containers and formal bedding schemes. Can be sown all year round in the greenhouse or indoors. For outside planting sow February to May. Sow on the surface of a good seed compost but do not cover with compost. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Do not exclude light. Germination takes 10-20 days at 21-24C (70-75F).

Cyclamen coum produces its dainty blooms from late winter to early spring. The leaves, which have silver patterning over dark green, and the flowers appear at the same time from tubers underground.

Soft rose flowers with a carmine base. Often called Cyclamen Hederifolium, this is one of the most popular species, with attractive marbled leaves for at least nine months of the year, and a fine display of dainty blooms - up to 50 from a large mature tuber - pirouetting gracefully on slender stalks. Plants are dormant during July and early August, and the first blooms usually appear before the leaves start to come through in September.

The Christmas rose has large, round, white flat-faced flowers and leathery, deep green foliage. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

One of the most striking native primula species, this is best grown in groups, especially if naturalised in grass. The fresh green rosettes of crinkly oval leaves are covered in velvety hairs, rolled inwards as the flower buds form in spring. Several flower stems are produced, each crowned by a one-sided cluster of long, funnel-shaped blooms, rich yellow and sweetly fragrant. Coloured hybrids are available in shades of red and orange, but the simple yellow species is the most charming for naturalising in generous quantities.

Green Manure provides a cheap, economical source of composting material and soil improver, as well as reducing weed establishment in ground that would otherwise remain empty i.e. borders. This mix of green manure seeds is fast growing and can be used all year round.
