'pH' is simply the measure of how acid or alkaline a soil is. Some plants require an acid peaty soil (low pH); some need chalky alkaline soil (high pH); others prefer a soil somewhere between. This pH meter enables you to find out how much lime (acidity) there is in your soil. You can then decide which plants are likely to thrive, which ones are worth trying, which plants to avoid entirely or how to go about supplying the special growing conditions they need.
